The second race of the 2018 IndyCar season is in the books. Which teams rank where in the latest edition of team power rankings?
The second race of the 17-race 2018 IndyCar season was the Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix, and it was held at ISM Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. Josef Newgarden won the 250-lap race in his #2 Chevrolet for Team Penske following an exciting finish.
However, Newgarden’s win is the only top 6 finish for a Chevrolet driver through two races so far this season. Honda drivers have taken 11 of the 12 top 6 positions so far this season.
In fact, just like his win at Phoenix, Newgarden’s 7th place finish in the season opener, the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, was the top finish among Chevrolet drivers. As a whole, Chevrolet teams, including Team Penske, have really not had great starts to the 2018 season.

That said, the win at Phoenix for Newgarden and Team Penske at Phoenix certainly helped their case in the IndyCar Team Power Rankings. Several Honda teams were helped by their results in the race at Phoenix as well, as Honda drivers took every position inside the top 6 aside of 1st place.
