James Davison’s 2018 Indy 500 entry with A.J Foyt Enterprises and the Byrd family has officially been confirmed after it was first reported last week.

Word got out last week that IndyCar driver James Davidson would be confirmed as one of A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ drivers in the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 in an entry fielded in a joint effort by the team, Jonathan Byrd’s Racing, Hollinger MotorSport and Belardi Auto Racing for the annual event at the four-turn, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana.

It was confirmed today that the 31-year-old Davison will indeed be making his fourth career Indy 500 attempt and first with A.J. Foyt Enterprises next month in the #33 Chevrolet for the team. He is set to team up with the team’s two full-time drivers, who are 2004 IndyCar champion and 2013 Indy 500 champion Tony Kanaan as well as rookie Matheus Leist, in the race as the race’s 35th confirmed entry.

Davison drove in IndyCar for the first time in the 2013 season after spending two seasons as a full-time Indy Lights driver in 2008 and 2009. In 2013, he drove in two IndyCar races for Dale Coyne Racing at Mid-Ohio and Sonoma.

The following season in 2014, Davidson made his first career Indy 500 start driving for KV Racing Technology. He started the race in 28th place and ended up finishing in 16th.

In 2015, Davison drove for Dale Coyne Racing in the Indy 500. He started in 33rd place in the car that Tristan Vautier had qualified one week earlier, as Vautier shifted to the car qualified by Carlos Huertas for the race itself since Huertas was unable to drive due to an inner ear infection. Davison ended up being involved in a pit road accident and finishing the race in 27th.

In 2016, Davison did not drive in the Indy 500, but he did so again in 2017 for the third time and for the second time as a replacement driver. He drove for Dale Coyne Racing as the replacement for Sebastien Bourdais, who was injured following a nasty wreck in qualifying. Once again, Davison started in 33rd place. He led two laps toward the end of the race, but he finished in 20th after being taken out in a late wreck.
