IndyCar: Scott Dixon tops first Long Beach practice session

Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the first practice session for Sunday’s IndyCar race on the streets of Long Beach, California.

The first practice session for the third race of the 2018 IndyCar season, which is the 44th annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on the streets of Long Beach, California, was led by Scott Dixon in his #9 Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Dixon topped the speed chart with a top lap time of 68.4112 seconds (103.562 miles per hour) around the 11-turn, 1.968-mile temporary street circuit. He led a top 3 Honda sweep, with Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi finishing the session in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

The fastest driver of a Chevrolet car in the practice session was Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, who finished the session in 4th place. Last year’s Long Beach winner James Hinchcliffe finished the session in 5th and championship standings leader Josef Newgarden finished it in 8th.

The second practice session is scheduled for 5:00 pm ET this evening, and the third practice session is scheduled for 1:45 pm ET tomorrow afternoon before qualifying takes place at 6:30 pm ET. Qualifying is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network at that time.

The final warmup session for the race is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm ET on Sunday, April 15th, and the race broadcast is set to start at 4:00 pm ET on NBC Sports Network later that day. The race itself, which is scheduled for 85 laps, is set to begin at roughly 4:40 pm ET on that day.
