NASCAR: 2018 Food City 500 at Bristol results – Kyle Busch wins again
By Asher Fair
Kyle Busch won the second straight NASCAR Cup Series race and his second straight Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway in the 2018 Food City 500.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch took the checkered flag in front of the rest of the field in the postponed Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, giving him two consecutive NASCAR Cup Series victories at Bristol dating back to the August Bristol race last season as well as two consecutive victories in the 2018 Cup Series season.
Busch in his #18 Toyota held off Kyle Larson in his #42 Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi Racing by under one second to win the race after passing him for the lead with just a handful of laps to go. Larson led 200 of the race’s 500 laps around the four-turn, 0.533-mile oval, but he was unable to secure the victory and had to settle for 2nd place.
The race featured 13 caution flag periods for 114 laps, and it also featured three red flag periods yesterday before the race was ultimately suspended with just 204 of its laps completed. It was scheduled to resume today, which is what it did.

A total of 18 lead changes among eight different drivers took place throughout the 266.5-mile race. Aside of Busch, who led 117 laps, and Larson, who led 200 laps, Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, Darrell Wallace Jr., Daniel Suarez, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano all led at least one lap of the race. They led 100, 67, six, five, four and one lap, respectively.
Blaney was the dominant driver early but was involved in a wreck with lapped traffic while leading the race. He finished in 35th place. Keselowski won both the first and second stages of the race but hit the wall late and had to settle for 23rd.
None of the drivers who finished the race from 3rd place to 8th place led the race at any point in time. Those six drivers were Jimmie Johnson, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Alex Bowman, Aric Almirola, Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer, respectively.
