Will Power topped the first practice session for the fifth race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the IndyCar Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Team Penske’s Will Power topped the first practice session for the fifth race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the IndyCar Grand Prix, with a top lap time of 70.0866 seconds (125.279 miles per hour) in his #12 Team Penske Chevrolet around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in Speedway, Indiana.
Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi was the fastest Honda driver of the session in his #27 Honda. He finished in second place behind Power. Honda drivers took three of the top five positions on the speed chart, with Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato finished in fourth and fifth in their #18 Honda and #30 Honda, respectively.
Ed Carpenter Racing rookie Jordan King was the other Chevrolet driver who finished the session in the top five. He did so by finishing in third place behind only Power and Rossi in his #20 Chevrolet.

Helio Castroneves finished the session in 10th place in his return to IndyCar in his #3 Team Penske Chevrolet He currently drives full-time for Team Penske’s Acura program in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship following 20 years of full-time competition in IndyCar and is set to race in tomorrow’s IndyCar Grand Prix in addition to the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 in two weeks.
The second practice session for the IndyCar Grand Prix is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. ET, and it is set to last until 1:15 p.m. ET. Qualifying for the race is set to be held from 4:30 p.m. ET to 5:45 p.m. ET tonight. The final warm-up for the race is set to take place from 11:15 a.m. ET to 11:45 a.m. ET tomorrow morning before the 85-lap race gets underway at 3:43 p.m. ET following the start of the live broadcast of it at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
