Kevin Harvick took the pole position for the 12th race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, the KC Masterpiece 400 at Kansas Speedway.

For the second time in the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season and the 23rd time in his Cup Series career, Kevin Harvick is set to start a race from the pole position. He took the pole in his #4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas for the fourth time in his career for tomorrow night’s KC Masterpiece 400.

Harvick is set to start on the front row alongside Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney in his #12 Ford. The top Toyota qualifier was Kyle Busch in his #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. He is set to start the race in third place alongside Harvick’s teammate Aric Almirola in his #10 Ford in fourth.

Ford drivers took four of the top five positions and six of the top nine positions on the starting for tomorrow’s race. The highest qualifying Chevrolet driver was Chris Buescher in his #37 JTG Daugherty Racing Ford in 10th place in what was yet another disappointing qualifying session for the Chevrolet teams and drivers.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

Kyle Larson looked like he would be the highest qualifying Chevrolet driver in his #42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet after the first of three rounds of qualifying. In fact, he looked poised to start the race somewhere in the first two rows.

However, Larson spun out in the second round of qualifying, which also negatively affected the qualifying run of Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott in his #9 Chevrolet since Elliott had to come in and go back out on tires that were no longer fresh, thus causing him to qualify in 17th place.

Larson is set to start the race in 22nd place, but he will likely change his tires before the race as a result of them wearing from his spin, which will send him to the back of the field for the second consecutive race. He was sent to back of the field ahead of the AAA 400 Drive for Autism last Sunday at Dover after qualifying on the pole but failing pre-race inspection three times.
