IndyCar: Scott Dixon tops third and final Indianapolis practice session

Scott Dixon topped the third and final practice session for the IndyCar Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday morning.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session ahead of the fifth race of the 17-race 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series scheduled, the IndyCar Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.
Dixon, who only managed to qualify back in 18th place for the race itself, topped the speed chart with a top lap time of 70.8157 seconds (123.989 miles per hour) around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile road course in his #9 Honda.
Team Penske’s Will Power, the polesitter for the race, was the second fastest driver and the fastest Chevrolet driver in the practice session in his #12 Chevrolet. Honda drivers took two of the top three positions in the session, with Ryan Hunter-Reay finishing in third in his #28 Andretti Autosport Honda.

Ed Carpenter Racing rookie Jordan King, Carlin Motorsport’s Max Chilton and A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan rounded out the top six from fourth to six place in their #20 Chevrolet, #59 Chevrolet and #14 Chevrolet, respectively, giving Chevrolet drivers four of the top six positions in the session.
Dale Coyne Racing rookie Zachary Claman DeMelo, who is replacing the injured Pietro Fittipaldi, had arguably his best practice session of the season. He finished in seventh place as the third fastest Honda driver in his #19 Honda. The race itself is set to begin at 3:43 p.m. ET this afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live from Indianapolis Motor Speedway starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.
