Tony Kanaan topped the speed chart in the ninth and final practice session for the 102nd running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan topped the speed chart in the ninth and final practice session on Carb Day for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500, the sixth race of the 2018 IndyCar season, this Sunday.
Kanaan topped the speed chart in this practice session in his #14 Chevrolet by recording a lap at 227.791 miles per hour (39.5099 seconds) around the four-turn, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana. His fastest lap of the session was more than two miles per hour faster than the fastest lap of anybody else in the session.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon was the fastest Honda driver in the practice session in his #9 Honda in second place behind only Kanaan. Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti and Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais gave Honda three drivers in the top four, as they finished in third and fourth in their #98 Honda and #18 Honda, respectively.

All 33 drivers who are set to compete in the Indy 500 on Sunday recorded laps in this practice session. Of those 33 drivers, 19 recorded laps without a tow. Dale Coyne Racing rookie Zachary Claman DeMelo recorded the fastest lap of the session without a tow at 221.572 miles per hour (40.6189 seconds) around the track in his #19 Honda. That lap, however, was his fastest overall lap of the session, so he only finished the session in 30th place.
Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot was the fastest Chevrolet driver in the practice session without a tow in second place behind only Claman DeMelo in his #21 Chevrolet.
