IndyCar: Ryan Hunter-Reay tops second and final Belle Isle practice session

Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the second and final practice session for the seventh and eighth races of the 2018 IndyCar season, the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in the second and final practice session for the seventh and eighth races of the 2018 IndyCar season, which are the two races included in the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit.

Hunter-Reay topped the Honda-dominated speed chart in his #28 Honda with a top lap time of 76.3598 seconds (110.791 miles per hour) around the 14-turn, 2.35-mile temporary street circuit on the streets of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan.

Each of the drivers who finished the practice session in the top three drive Honda-powered cars. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon finished in second place in his #9 Honda, and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe finished in third in his #5 Honda.

Nine of the drivers who finished the practice session in the top 11 driver Honda-powered cars. All four Andretti Autosport drivers finished the session in the top 10, as aside of Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti, Alexander Rossi and Zach Veach finished in fifth, eighth and 10th place in their #98 Honda, #27 Honda and #26 Honda, respectively.

The only two Chevrolet drivers who finished the practice session in the top 11 were Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud, who finished the session in fourth and seventh place in their #1 Chevrolet and #22 Chevrolet, respectively. Their teammate and newly crowned Indianapolis 500 champion Will Power finished the session in 12th as the third fastest Chevrolet driver.

The fastest Chevrolet driver of the practice session who does not drive for Team Penske was Carlin Motorsport’s Max Chilton, who finished the session in 14th place.

Qualifying for the first race of the Dual in Detroit is set to begin tomorrow at 10:55 a.m. ET and is set to be broadcast live on IndyCar RaceControl, the IndyCar app, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Tomorrow’s Dual in Detroit race is set to begin at 3:50 p.m. and is set to be broadcast live on ABC and WatchESPN starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Qualifying for the second race of the Dual in Detroit is set to begin on Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m. ET and is set to be broadcast on IndyCar RaceControl, the IndyCar app, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube as well. Sunday’s Dual in Detroit race, like Saturday’s Dual in Detroit race, is set to begin at 3:50 p.m. and is set to be broadcast live on ABC and WatchESPN starting at 3:30 p.m ET.
