Sebastien Bourdais topped the first practice session for the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit, which includes the seventh and eighth races of the 2018 IndyCar season.
Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais topped the speed chart in the first of two practice sessions for the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit, which includes both the seventh and eighth races of the 2018 IndyCar season.
Bourdais topped the Honda-dominated speed chart in his #18 Honda with a top lap time of 77.8545 seconds (108.664 miles per hour) around the 14-turn, 2.35-mile temporary street circuit on the streets of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan.
Each of the drivers who finished the practice session in the top eight drive Honda-powered cars. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon finished in second place in his #9 Honda, and the winner of both of last year’s Dual in Detroit races, Graham Rahal, finished in third in his #15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda.

All four Andretti Autosport drivers finished the practice session in the top eight, as Alexander Rossi, Marco Andretti, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Zach Veach finished in fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth place in their #27 Honda, #98 Honda, #28 Honda and #26 Honda, respectively.
The other Honda driver who finished the practice session in the top eight was Dale Coyne Racing’s Santino Ferrucci, who is set to make his IndyCar debut this weekend and had not previously driven in an IndyCar practice session before. He finished the session in sixth place in his #19 Honda.
The fastest Chevrolet driver of the practice session was reigning IndyCar champion Josef Newgarden, who finished in ninth place in his #1 Team Penske Chevrolet.
The second practice session for the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit is set to get underway at 3:10 p.m. ET this afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live on IndyCar RaceControl, the IndyCar app, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Qualifying for the first race of the Dual in Detroit is set to begin tomorrow at 10:55 a.m. ET and is set to be broadcast live on all of those channels as well.
Tomorrow’s Dual in Detroit race, the first of the weekend, is set to begin at 3:50 p.m. and is set to be broadcast live on ABC and WatchESPN starting at 3:30 p.m. ET. Qualifying for the second race of the Dual in Detroit is set to begin on Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m. ET and is set to be broadcast on the same channels that the final practice sessions and first qualifying session are set to be broadcast on.
Sunday’s Dual in Detroit race, the second of the weekend, is also set to begin at 3:50 p.m. and is set to be broadcast live on ABC and WatchESPN starting at 3:30 p.m ET.
