IndyCar: 2018 Chevrolet Dual in Detroit Race 2 qualifying results – Alexander Rossi takes pole

Alexander Rossi took the pole position for the eighth race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the second race of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit.
Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi became the first driver to take two pole positions in the 2018 IndyCar season by taking the pole position for the second race of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit.
Rossi, who also took the pole position for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in the middle of April before going on to dominate and win that race, took the pole position for Sunday afternoon’s race on the 14-turn, 2.35-mile temporary street circuit on the streets of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan by recording a lap at 93.3143 seconds (90.661 miles per hour) in his #27 Honda.
Rossi topped the speed chart in the second of two qualifying groups to take the pole position and earn one bonus point for his effort in the rain-soaked qualifying session. Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens topped the speed chart in the first qualifying group to earn one bonus point and qualify in second place on the outside of the front row in his #6 Honda.

Team Penske’s Will Power was the lone Chevrolet driver who qualified for the race in the top seven. He qualified in third place in his #12 Chevrolet. Simon Pagenaud was the only other Chevrolet driver who qualified in the top 10. He qualified in eighth in his #22 Team Penske Chevrolet. The highest qualifying non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver was Ed Carpenter Racing rookie Jordan King, who qualified in 11th in his #20 Chevrolet.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, who started in second place in the first race of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit yesterday before going on to lead 39 of the its 70 laps and winning it, qualified in fifth for today’s race in his #9 Honda. Yesterday’s race polesitter Marco Andretti qualified in 12th for today’s race in his #98 Andretti Herta Autosport Honda.
