Robert Wickens topped the speed chart in the first of two practice sessions for the DXC Technology 600, the ninth race of the 2018 IndyCar season.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens topped the speed chart in the first of two practice sessions for the ninth of 17 races on the 2018 IndyCar schedule, the DXC Technology 600 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Wickens topped the speed chart in this practice session in his #6 Honda by recording a lap at 220.014 miles per hour (23.5621 seconds) around the high banks of the four-turn, 1.44-mile Texas Motor Speedway oval in Fort Worth, Texas.

Wickens and A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan actually ended up tied in the practice session, as they both recorded laps at 220.014 miles per hour (23.5621 seconds).

However, Wickens’ lap was faster because of the fact that it had a higher value in the ten thousandths place in its miles per hour statistic compared to Kanaan’s miles per hour statistic and it had a lower value in the hundred thousandths place in its time statistic compared to Kanaan’s time statistic. These tie-breaking values are not recorded on IndyCar RaceControl and have not been revealed.

Kanaan ended up being the fastest Chevrolet driver in the practice session in second place in his #14 Chevrolet. Honda drivers ended up taking three of the top four and eight of the top 12 positions on the speed chart in this session.

There are no more practice sessions before qualifying is scheduled to get underway this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. ET. The only remaining practice session prior to the race tomorrow night at 8:45 p.m. ET is scheduled to take place tonight at 7:15 p.m. ET.
