Josef Newgarden topped the speed chart in the first practice session for the 10th race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the Kohler Grand Prix.
Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden topped the speed chart in the first of three practice sessions for the 10th race of the 17-race 2018 IndyCar season, the Kohler Grand Prix at Road America.
Newgarden topped the speed chart in his #1 Chevrolet by recording a top lap time of 103.0477 seconds (141.418 miles per hour) around the 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) Road America road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Newgarden was the only Chevrolet driver who finished the session in the top five, as four Honda drivers representing three different teams finished from second through fifth place in the session.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato finished the session in second place as the fastest Honda driver in his #30 Honda. Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens and Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti rounded out the top five in their #27 Honda, #6 Honda and #98 Honda, respectively.
The second fastest Chevrolet driver in the session was A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan, who finished in sixth place in his #14 Chevrolet.
The second practice session for the Kohler Grand Prix is set to take place this afternoon at 4:15 p.m. ET, and it is set to be broadcast live on IndyCar RaceControl, the IndyCar app, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
The third practice session for the race is set to be broadcast live on all of these channels as well, and it is set to take place tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. ET. Qualifying is also set to be broadcast live on all of these channels, and it is set to take place later tomorrow afternoon at 4:15 p.m. ET. An encore of qualifying is set to be shown on NBC Sports Network at 6:30 p.m. ET.
