IndyCar: Josef Newgarden tops second Road America practice session

Josef Newgarden topped the second practice session for the Kohler Grand Prix, which is the 10th race of the 2018 IndyCar season.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden topped the speed chart in the second of three practice sessions for the Kohler Grand Prix, which is the 10th race of the 17-race 2018 IndyCar season, at Road America.

Newgarden topped the speed chart in his #1 Chevrolet by recording a top lap time of 102.6279 seconds (141.996 miles per hour) around the 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) Road America road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Chevrolet drivers, particularly Team Penske drivers, finished the practice session in three of the top five positions on the speed chart, as Will Power and Simon Pagenaud finished in fourth and fifth place in their #12 Chevrolet and #22 Chevrolet, respectively.

Honda drivers took two of the top three positions on the speed chart in the practice sessions, as Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens and Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais finished in second and third place in their #6 Honda and #18 Honda, respectively.

Honda drivers took seven of the top 10 positions and 11 of the top 15 positions on the speed chart in the practice session. A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan was the only non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver who finished the session in the top 15. He finished in 11th place in his #14 Chevrolet.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ed Jones was the only Honda driver who did not finish the practice session in the top 15 on the speed chart. He finished in 18th place in his #10 Honda. All of the other drivers who finished from 16th through 23rd (last) are Chevrolet drivers.

The third practice session for the Kohler Grand Prix is set to take place tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. ET, and it is set to be broadcast live on IndyCar RaceControl, the IndyCar app, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Qualifying is set to take place tomorrow afternoon at 4:15 p.m. ET, and it is also set to be broadcast live on all of these channels. NBC Sports Network is set to show an encore of qualifying at 6:30 p.m. ET tomorrow evening.
