IndyCar: Robert Wickens tops third and final Road America practice session

Robert Wickens topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for the 10th race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the Kohler Grand Prix.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for the  10th race of the 17-race 2018 IndyCar season, the Kohler Grand Prix at Road America.

Wickens topped the speed chart in this practice session in his #6 Honda by recording a top lap time of 102.9915 seconds (141.495 miles per hour) around the 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) Road America road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Wickens led a top two Honda sweep of the speed chart in the practice session, as Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay finished in second place in his #28 Honda. Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud finished the session as the highest Chevrolet driver in third in his #22 Chevrolet.

Honda drivers took the top two, four of the top five and 10 of the top 12 positions on the speed chart in this practice session. The only other Chevrolet driver aside of Pagenaud to finish in the top 12 in the session was Team Penske’s Will Power. He finished in sixth place in his #12 Chevrolet.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden was the third and final Chevrolet driver to finish the practice session in the top 14. He finished in 13th in his #1 Chevrolet. Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot was the highest finishing non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver in the session. He finished in 15th in his #21 Chevrolet.

Of the 12 Honda drivers in the field, 11 finished in the top 14 in this practice session. The only Honda driver who finished lower than 14th place in the session was Dale Coyne Racing’s Zachary Claman DeMelo, who finished in 18th in his #19 Honda. All of the other drivers who finished from 15th through 23rd (last) are Chevrolet drivers.

Qualifying for the Kohler Grand Prix is set to be broadcast live on IndyCar RaceControl, the IndyCar app, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube this afternoon at 4:15 p.m. ET. At 6:30 p.m. ET this evening, NBC Sports Network is set to show an encore of qualifying.
