NASCAR: What’s wrong with NASCAR? Part 5 – Scheduling
Check out part five of “What’s wrong with NASCAR?” as I discuss one of NASCAR’s burning issues, scheduling, and what could be done to spice things up!
Folks, you know what time it is! Thanks for joining me for part five of my summer series “What’s wrong with NASCAR?”. This week I discuss hot topics among the garage, tracks and scheduling. At the end, I’ll also give a few ideas I’ve had over the years to fix said problems. I hope you enjoy.
Don’t get too excited just yet; we still have some business to take care of first! To keep track with what the series has discussed so far, click the links below to read parts one through four.
Nearly a week ago, fans witnessed one of the crown jewel events of the NASCAR season. It wasn’t the race at Daytona International Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway or even Charlotte Motor Speedway. It was the Truck Series race at Eldora. The half-mile dirt track played host to the sixth annual Eldora Dirty Derby, NASCAR’s only points-paying dirt race.
Since the side by side finish involving Truck Series regular Grant Enfinger and part-time driver Chase Briscoe, all the talk in NASCAR has revolved around scheduling. The conversation picked up late last week when three-time Cup Series champion Tony Stewart stated his dirt track, Eldora, was ready to host Xfinity Series and Cup Series events.
This kick-started a campaign headed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. to help the historic dirt track play a bigger role in the sport. Since then, we’ve seen many fans and drivers laying out ideas to fix the current product. Conveniently, this week was when I planned to talk about this very topic.
First, I’ll discuss a little history and then get into the issue itself. Lastly, I’ll give a few ideas, as I mentioned above. These ideas will be me thinking out loud while still keeping a realistic element. I hope you enjoy.
