This week’s lackluster event at Sonoma inspired me! Take your first look at a new weekly series titled “What’s wrong with NASCAR” as I dive into the issues currently plaguing the sport.

Welcome in, NASCAR family! I hope everyone enjoyed some unique racing this past weekend, as the Truck Series made a stop at Gateway Motorsports Park and the Cup Series cars went road racing at Sonoma Raceway!

This week, I want to announce a new series I’ll be working on over the next few months. This past weekend, the lack of excitement at Sonoma sparked something in me. For the first time in my life, I was essentially bored with NASCAR.

Don’t worry. I love the sport too much to walk away, but I want to get my true feelings out about the state of modern NASCAR. To accomplish such a goal, I want to use what little voice I have. This series will be titled |What’s wrong with NASCAR”, and it will be split into 10 separate sections. The piece you are reading now is considered the first of those sections.

These sections will each include another aspect that is currently “wrong” with the sport. The sections will go as follows:

  • Introduction (What you’re reading now)
  • The Cars
  • Money/Sponsorship
  • Ownership
  • Tracks/Scheduling
  • The Fans
  • The Drivers
  • Gimmicks
  • Rules/Restrictions
  • Conclusion

More from NASCAR Cup Series

Each week, you can expect me to explain why each of these topics is hurting the world of NASCAR. In addition to discussing the issue, I will also attempt to explain a solution to it. My goal is to vent my own frustrations and perhaps build on other frustrations I’ve seen from other NASCAR fans. We may even get a few quotes from fans along the way.

Overall, this series will be based around the goal of shining light on NASCAR’s issues and trying to solve them. The thoughts expressed will be my own and will have been gathered from my own observations of the sport. Solutions will be realistic, but they may be outside the box at times.

I hope you enjoy this journey with me, so be sure to take part in the series any way possible. Share, comment or give your own take on these matters. Conversations like these can go a long way. Who knows who could be listening down the road?
