Formula 1: Fernando Alonso announcement coming tomorrow?
By Asher Fair
A tweet posted by two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso has fans wondering if perhaps an announcement about his future is coming tomorrow.
As far as the Formula 1 grid is concerned, the driver with the most uncertainty surrounding his future is two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso.
Alonso is in his 17th season as a Formula 1 driver, and he is in his fifth season driving for McLaren. He has driven for McLaren in each of the last four seasons, and his frustration has mounted as a result of the fact that they have not given him a car capable of winning races.
From the 2015 season through the 2017 season, McLaren used Honda engines and the 32-time Grand Prix winner did not finish a single race in a position higher than fifth place. In 22 of the 56 races he started during this three-year span, he was forced to retire.
However, McLaren were able to sign him to a contract for the 2018 season because of the fact that they switched from Honda engines to Renault engines.
But Alonso still hasn’t been able to finish a race in a position higher than fifth place through the first 12 races of this season, and it is clear that he does not want to continue being a mid-pack contender at best.

In April, it was revealed that Alonso would likely leave McLaren at the end of the season, although nothing had been confirmed at that time. In fact, his likely replacement candidate was even revealed right around this time.
Nearly four months later, there has still not yet been anything confirmed.
Ever since then, there has been speculation that Alonso would leave Formula 1 to return to the Indianapolis 500 next year or possibly even to drive full-time in IndyCar for the first time in his career assuming he does not land a ride with one of the top-tier Formula 1 teams, which is extremely unlikely at this point.
But while there have been endless back-and-forth discussions about Alonso’s future over the past few months regarding why he might or might not drive in IndyCar or Formula 1, is there a chance that these discussions will end tomorrow?
Alonso posted a rather cryptic tweet earlier this week with text reading “14-08”, enclosed by two fireworks emojis. Attached to this text was a movie reel countdown.
Seeing as how today is the 13th of August, could this mean that an announcement regarding the future of the 37-year-old Spaniard is coming tomorrow on the 14th of the eighth month of 2018?
Here is Alonso’s tweet.
Will an announcement regarding the future of Fernando Alonso’s racing career be made tomorrow, or is his tweet about something completely unrelated? Is he possibly just trying to stir up more speculation about his future like he has done in the past?
