Sage Karam will not start in his home IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway this Sunday, but there is still a chance that he will race again this season.
It was just confirmed that Sage Karam will not be driving in this weekend’s IndyCar race, the ABC Supply 500, at Pocono Raceway, which is the home track of the of Nazareth, Pennsylvania native.
Karam, 23, has not driven in an IndyCar race at the three-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Pocono Raceway triangle since the 2015 season. In fact, he has not driven an any non-Indianapolis 500 IndyCar race since he drove in that race at Pocono back in 2015.
But while the 2013 Indy Lights champion could not piece together the funding to compete in this Sunday’s race, there is still a chance that he will drive in an IndyCar race before the 2018 season comes to a close.
Here is what Karam, whose lone IndyCar start so far this season came in the Indy 500, tweeted after he learned officially that he would not be starting in this Sunday’s race.
Here is what Karam had to say about potentially still driving in an IndyCar race this season, according to The Morning Call.
"“I just want to be back in an IndyCar again and it kind of hurts that I was so close this time. But it just makes me want to work harder and get back out there. The same team that was interested in Pocono is interested in Gateway. If I can piece together the money I need, I can hopefully race at Gateway.”"
The IndyCar race at Gateway Motorsports Park is the Bommarito Automotive 500. That race is scheduled to take place just six days after the ABC Supply 500 on Saturday, August 25.
Karam, whose IndyCar career began back in the 2014 season with the 2014 Indy 500 and consists of 16 races, of which 10 are oval track races, so far, has never driven in an IndyCar race at the four-turn, 1.25-mile (2.012-kilometer) Gateway Motorsports Park oval in Madison, Illinois, and driving in that race would certainly not be anything like driving in his home race at Pocono Raceway would be.

However, as evidenced by the fact that Karam has been trying to add to his Indy 500-only IndyCar schedule for three years now, it is clear that he is eager to get more time behind the wheel of an IndyCar regardless of whether or not he gets to do so at his home race track, and getting to do so in an oval race would be optimal for him.
After all, all three of Karam’s career top 10 IndyCar finishes have come in oval races. Among those top 10 finishes are a ninth place finish in the 2014 Indy 500, a fifth place finish in the race at Auto Club Speedway in the 2015 season and a career-high third place finish in the race at Iowa Speedway in the 2015 season.
If Karam ends up racing at Gateway Motorsports Park for a competitive team, he could surprise a lot of people.
Do you believe that Sage Karam will land a ride for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsports Park on Saturday, August 25? If not, when do you believe he will drive in his next IndyCar race?
