2014 IndyCar champion and 2018 Indy 500 champion Will Power has signed a contract extension to remain with Team Penske through at least the 2019 IndyCar season.

Will Power has signed a contract extension to remain with Team Penske through the 2019 IndyCar season and beyond, although the exact length of this contract extension has not been disclosed. The 37-year-old Australian won the IndyCar championship in the 2014 season, and he won the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 earlier this year.

Power is currently in his 10th season as a full-time IndyCar driver and his ninth season driving full-time for Team Penske. He also so drove part-time for the team in the 2009 season before he landed a full-time ride with the team in the 2010 season.

Power has driven full-time for Team Penske ever since. The only IndyCar season during which he was a full-time driver for a team other than Team Penske was the 2008 season when he drove full-time for KV Racing Technology.

Through the first 14 races of this season, Power has racked up nine top 10 finishes and six top five finishes, of which all six are podium finishes and two are victories. He currently sits in fourth place in the championship standings with an average starting position of 2.5 and an average finishing position of 9.7.

Here is what Power had to say about re-signing with Team Penske, according to RACER.

"“I’m very happy – everything is good and I’m with the best team in racing.”"

Here is what Team Penske team owner Roger Penske had to say about re-signing Power as well as 2016 IndyCar champion Simon Pagenaud, according to RACER.

"“Yes, everything is set and everyone is coming back. It’s a good group.”"

Power competed full-time in Champ Car from the 2005 season through the 2007 season driving for Walker Racing. He racked up two victories, six podium finishes and six pole positions in his 30 career races driving in the series. His average starting position was 5.9 and his average finishing position was 8.3.

Power has competed in 171 races over the course of his IndyCar career so far. He has earned 32 victories, 63 podium finishes and 47 pole positions in those 118 races. His average starting position is 5.3 and his average finishing position is 9.0. His most recent victory came in this year’s Indy 500.

A total of 31 of Power’s 32 career victories, 61 of his 62 career podium finishes and all 47 of his career pole positions have come during his tenure at Team Penske.

While Power won the IndyCar championship in the 2014 season, his best season statistically has probably been the 2011 season. He recorded a career-high six victories, and he tied his career-high podium finish total of nine as well as his career-high pole position total of eight, both of which he recorded in the 2010 season as well.

The 2010 season was the season during which Power recorded his career-high average starting position of 2.2 and his career-high average finishing position of 6.3. He did record an average finishing position of 4.3 in the 2008 season, but he only drove in six of the season’s 17 races.

In 11 career Indianapolis 500 starts, Power has six top 10 finishes. All six of those top 10 finishes have come in his 10 Indy 500 starts as a Team Penske driver, including his first career Indy 500 victory in this year’s edition of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” after he started in third place. This third place start was his 10th top nine start in 10 Indy 500 attempts driving for Team Penske. In his lone Indy 500 start driving for KV Racing Technology, he started in 23rd.
