IndyCar: Alexander Rossi tops second 2018 Gateway practice session

Alexander Rossi topped the second and final practice session for the 15th race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, at Gateway Motorsports Park.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi topped the speed chart in the second and final practice session for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, which is the 15th race of the 17-race 2018 IndyCar season, at Gateway Motorsports Park.

This practice session was originally scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. ET, but it was extended by 30 minutes and began at 8:30 p.m. ET to give drivers more track time after rain caused the first practice session to be delayed and the qualifying session to be canceled.

Rossi topped the speed chart in this practice session by recording a top lap speed of 183.060 miles per hour (24.5821 seconds) around the four-turn, 1.25-mile (2.012-kilometer) Gateway Motorsports Park oval in Madison, Illinois in his #27 Honda.

Rossi led a top six Honda sweep of the practice session. Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Scott Dixon, the race polesitter, and Ed Jones finished in second and fourth place in their #9 Honda and #10 Honda, respectively.

Dale Coyne Racing rookie Pietro Fittipaldi finished in an impressive third place in his #19 Honda and Andretti Autosport teammates Zach Veach and Ryan Hunter-Reay finished in fifth and sixth in their #26 Honda and #28 Honda, respectively.

A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan was the highest finishing Chevrolet driver of the practice session. He finished in seventh place in his #14 Chevrolet. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal, Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais and Team Penske’s Will Power rounded out the top 10 in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #15 Honda, #18 Honda and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.

The race itself is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network starting at 8:00 p.m. ET tomorrow night. It is scheduled to begin at 8:35 p.m. ET.
