IndyCar: Scott Dixon tops second Portland open test

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the second IndyCar open test at Portland International Raceway leading up to this Sunday’s Grand Prix of Portland.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the second open test leading up to the race weekend at Portland International Raceway. The penultimate race of the 17-race 2018 IndyCar season is scheduled to take place at the track on Sunday, September 2.

Dixon, the current leader of the IndyCar championship standings, recorded a top lap time of 58.3593 seconds (121.338 miles per hour) around the 12-turn, 1.967-mile (3.166-kilometer) Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon in his #9 Honda.

Team Penske teammates Will Power, who topped the speed chart in the first test session at the track, and Josef Newgarden were the highest finishing Chevrolet drivers of the session. They rounded out the top three in second and third place in their #12 Chevrolet and #1 Chevrolet, respectively. The team’s other driver, Simon Pagenaud, finished the test session in 18th place in his #22 Chevrolet.

Honda drivers took each of the seven remaining positions in the top 10 in the test session. Andretti Autosport teammates Marco Andretti (Andretti Herta Autosport), Zach Veach, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi finished in fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth place in their #98 Honda, #26 Honda, #28 Honda and #27 Honda, respectively.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ed Jones and Meyer Shank Racing rookie Jack Harvey finished the test session in sixth, eighth and 10th place in their #18 Honda, #10 Honda and #60 Honda, respectively.

The fastest non-Team Penske Chevrolet drivers in this test session were Ed Carpenter Racing rookie Jordan King and A.J. Foyt Enterprises rookie Matheus Leist. Pigot and Leist finished in 11th and 12th place in their #20 Chevrolet and #4 Chevrolet, respectively.

Tomorrow afternoon at 1:45 p.m. ET is when the first official practice session for the race is scheduled to begin. Later tomorrow evening at 5:35 p.m. ET is when the second practice session is scheduled to begin, and Saturday at 2:10 p.m. ET is when the third and final practice session is scheduled to begin.

All three of the practice sessions for the race are set to be broadcast live on IndyCar RaceControl, the IndyCar mobile app, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Saturday evening at 6:20 p.m. ET is when qualifications for the race are scheduled to start, and they are set to be broadcast live on IndyCar RaceControl, the IndyCar mobile app, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube as well. Later that evening at 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network is set to re-air qualifications.

Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET is when the race itself is scheduled to go green, and NBC Sports Network is set to broadcast it live beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.
