NASCAR Cup Series: Regan Smith to replace Kasey Kahne in next three races
By Asher Fair
Regan Smith is set to replace Kasey Kahne in each of the next three NASCAR Cup Series races after replacing him in the Brickyard 400.
Regan Smith, who had not driven in a NASCAR Cup Series race since he drove in the June race at Dover International Speedway last year, replaced Leavine Family Racing’s Kasey Kahne behind the wheel of the #95 Chevrolet in this past Monday’s Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard.
Smith finished this race, which is more commonly known as the Brickyard 400, at the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana in 20th place after starting back in 27th.
Now the 34-year old Cato, New York native is set to replace Kahne in each of the next three Cup Series races as well, as the dehydration and heat exhaustion issues that sidelined the 38-year-old Enumclaw, Washington native for the Brickyard 400 have not yet been resolved.

The three races in which Smith is set to drive the #95 Leaving Family Racing Chevrolet are the first three races of this season’s 10-race playoffs. These three races are the three round of 16 races, and they are set to take place over the course of the next three weekends.
The first of these three races is the South Point 400, which is scheduled to take place this Sunday, September 16 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. The second of these three races is the Federated Auto Parts 400, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 22 at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Virginia.
Finally, the third of these three races is the Bank of America Roval 400, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 30 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval in Concord, North Carolina.
It is still unknown if Kahne will return for the race that is scheduled to take place the week after the Bank of America Roval 400. This race is the Dover 400, which is the first of three races in the round of 12 and is scheduled to take place at Dover International Speedway on Sunday, October 7.
Kahne announced last month that the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season will be his 15th and final season as a full-time driver in the sport, as he is set to retire once the season comes to an end.
NBC Sports Network is set to broadcast the opening race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, the South Point 400, live from Las Vegas Motor Speedway at 3:00 p.m. ET this Sunday, September 16. How will Regan Smith perform in his second race as Kasey Kahne’s replacement behind the wheel of the #95 Leavine Family Racing Chevrolet this season? Tune in to find out.
