Just four races remain on the 2018 Formula 1 schedule following the Japanese Grand Prix. How do the sport’s 10 teams stack up against one another?
Lewis Hamilton delivered Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport yet another victory by winning the 17th race of the 21-race 2018 Formula 1 season, the Japanese Grand Prix.
With Hamilton being the lone Mercedes driver who has won at least one race this season, as Valtteri Bottas has yet to do so, the fact that this victory was his ninth victory of the season means that it was also Mercedes’ ninth victory of the season.
This means that Mercedes are guaranteed to sit atop the wins list, or, at the very least, sit tied atop the wins list, once the season comes to a close.
Mercedes entered the 53-lap race around the 18-turn, 3.609-mile (5.807-kilometer) Suzuka Circuit road course in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, Japan with eight victories, which was three victories more than Scuderia Ferrari entered with.

Now with just four races remaining on the schedule, Ferrari’s maximum possible win total is nine. With them being unlikely to hit that and Mercedes being likely to add to their current win total of nine, especially considering the fact that they have won the last four and six of the last seven races, it looks as though the German team are set to lead Formula 1 in victories for the fifth consecutive season.
Aside of Mercedes and Ferrari, only Aston Martin Red Bull Racing have won at least one race this season. They have won three races this season, and they are the only team to have both of their drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen, to secure at least one victory this year, as Sebastian Vettel is responsible for all five of Ferrari’s victories. Ricciardo has earned two victories while Verstappen has earned one.
Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing have now combined to earn each of the last 114 victories in Formula 1 races. The last race won by a driver who was not driver for one of these three teams was the 2013 season opener, the Australian Grand Prix. Kimi Raikkonen, who now drives for Ferrari, won that race driving for Lotus.
