Formula 1: Mick Schumacher joins Ferrari Driver Academy for 2019

Reigning European Formula 3 champion Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher, has joined the Ferrari Driver Academy for 2019.
After winning the 2018 Formula 3 European Championship driving for Prema Theodore Racing in his second season competing in the sport, Mick Schumacher was confirmed as one of Prema Racing’s two drivers for the 2019 Formula 2 season.
The son of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher entered the 15th race of the 30-race 2018 Formula 3 European Championship having competed in 44 races over the course of his career in the sport, and he had not won any of them. He proceeded to win eight of the next 12, including five in a row, en route to securing the championship.
In addition to being confirmed as one of Prema Racing’s two drivers for the 2019 Formula 2 season, the 19-year-old German has now joined the Ferrari Driver Academy for 2019.
Here is what Schumacher had to say about the opportunity to become a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, according to Autosport.
"“It is more than obvious that Ferrari has a big place in my heart since I was born and also in the hearts of our family. So I am delighted on a personal level about this opportunity as well.”"
Here is what Mattia Binotto, the new team principal of Ferrari following the firing of Maurizio Arrivabene, had to say about the team bringing Schumacher on board for 2019, according to Autosport.
"“For someone like me who has known him from birth, there’s no doubt that welcoming Mick into Ferrari has a special emotional meaning. But we have chosen him for his talent and the human and professional qualities that have already distinguished him despite his young age.”"

Schumacher is set to join Callum Ilott, Giuliano Alesi, Marcus Armstrong, Robert Shwartzman, Enzo Fittipaldi and Gianluca Petecof at the Ferrary Driver Academy in 2019.
Ilott and Alesi are both set to compete in Formula 2 alongside Schumacher in the 2019 season while Armstrong and Shwartzman are both set to compete in the Formula 3 European Championship. Fittipaldi is set to compete in the Formula Regional European Championship while Petecof is set to compete in the Italian Formula 4 Championship and the ADAC Formula 4 Championship.
Michael Schumacher spent 11 of his 19 seasons as a full-time Formula 1 driver driving for Ferrari, including 10 as a full-time driver. He won five of his record seven championships driving for the Italian team, as he won five consecutive championships from the 2000 season through the 2004 season.
Will Mick Schumacher end up following in his the footsteps of his legendary father and be promoted to Ferrari’s Formula 1 team in the future? With him now being a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and with him being set to compete in Formula 2 for the first time this season, don’t rule it out.
