Petty and Earnhardt entered the 16-driver bracket that this whole “GOAT” poll process started out as as the #1 seed and the #3 seed, respectively. The original championship poll for these drivers last for only one day. It began at 6:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, January 31 and ended at 6:00 a.m. ET on Friday, February 1. It ended in a 448-448 tie.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

This championship poll was the poll that received the most votes among any of the polls throughout the entire “GOAT” poll process, including not only the NASCAR polls but the Formula 1 and IndyCar polls as well, and it really wasn’t even close.

As a result of this and as a result of the fact that 24 hours was not enough time to declare a winner even though 896 people voted, the championship tiebreaker poll was scheduled to last for an entire week.

As a result, more people should have the chance to vote for either Petty or Earnhardt and that the driver who is more deserving of being considering the greatest NASCAR driver of all-time will come out on top.

How do Petty and Earnhardt stack up against one another as far as total votes and percentages are concerned on the second day of this seven-day poll? Take a look below.

NOTE: These vote counts and percentages are accurate as of 8:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, February 5. Not all poll updates will be based on vote counts at this particular time of day.

Votes since last update (5:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday, February 5): 96

Richard Petty: 66 votes (68.8%)
Dale Earnhardt: 30 votes (31.2%)

Total votes: 890

Richard Petty: 532 votes (59.8%)
Dale Earnhardt: 358 votes (40.2%)

Petty and Earnhardt both received 448 voted in the original championship poll, yet Earnhardt still needs 90 votes more to reach that point even though this tiebreaker poll began more than a day and a half ago. He trails Petty by 174 votes (19.6%), and Petty’s lead over him has grown both in terms of votes and in terms of percentage since the last update was provided almost 15 hours ago.
