NASCAR: Will Kyle Busch break the all-time wins record in 2019?
By Asher Fair
Kyle Busch has a chance to break the all-time NASCAR wins record of 200 in the 2019 season. Will he dethrone Richard Petty in this category?
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch is set to enter the 2019 NASCAR season having earned a combined 194 victories in the Cup Series, the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series, putting him within striking distance of the all-time record.
Richard Petty earned 200 Cup Series victories, which is by far an all-time record, over the course of his career. His 200 Cup Series victories account for all of his victories across NASCAR’s top three series, as he never competed in the Xfinity Series nor the Truck Series.
Busch has earned 51 Cup Series victories, a total that ranks 11th on the all-time wins list. He has earned an all-time record 92 Xfinity Series victories, and his Truck Series win total of 51 is tied for the all-time record.

Before we let the debate about whether or not Busch’s victories in lower series should affect how he is viewed when comparing the greatest drivers in NASCAR history get in the way, let’s keep in mind that there is no debate about the fact that Petty earned 200 NASCAR victories and Busch has earned 194.
The debate about whether or not Busch’s victories in lower series should affect how he is viewed when comparing the greatest drivers in NASCAR history is one that will likely go on for a long time, and it is one that should certainly be discussed, but this particular article is not the place for it.
The question at hand is this: Will the 33-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada native break the all-time NASCAR wins record in the 2019 season?
To put it bluntly, it would be flat-out shocking if Petty still holds this record by the time the 2019 season comes to a close.
Busch hasn’t earned fewer than seven combined Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Truck Series victories in a season since he won just one Cup Series race in the 2012 season.
Prior to the 2012 season, Busch hadn’t earned fewer than seven combined Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Truck Series victories since he won one race in each series in the 2006 season, which was only his second season as as full-time Cup Series driver.
Busch tied his career-high by earning eight Cup Series victories in the 2018 season, and he added one Xfinity Series victory and two Truck Series victories to his career NASCAR win total as well. His combined win total of three in the Xfinity Series and Truck Series last season was actually his lowest since he failed to win any races in either series in the 2012 season.
If Busch earns just three combined victories in the Xfinity Series and Truck Series again in the 2019 season, he will need to earn four Cup Series victories to break Petty’s record. He hasn’t earned fewer than four Cup Series victories in a season since he earned only one in the 2014 season.
Again, it will be shocking if Busch’s career NASCAR win total following the conclusion of the 2019 season is not a new all-time record.
Will Kyle Busch become the all-time leader in NASCAR victories in the 2019 season? If so, in which series and in which races will he earn his 200th and 201st career victories?
