In his first start of the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, Kyle Busch won the Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

After winning Friday night’s NASCAR Truck Series race, the Strat 200, at the track, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch has started the weekend two for two at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The 33-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada native earned his first victory of the 2019 Xfinity Series season in his first start of the season by winning the Boyd Gaming 300 at the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) high-banked Las Vegas Motor Speedway oval in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Busch started this 213-lap race, which was scheduled to be a 200-lap race but went into overtime twice as a result of multiple late crashes, in eighth place in his #18 Toyota. He won it by 0.192 seconds over GMS Racing’s John Hunter Nemechek, who finished in second in his #23 Chevrolet.

This victory is Busch’s 93rd career Xfinity Series victory, which is an all-time record, and his 197th career victory across NASCAR’s top three series. He has also earned 51 career Cup Series victories and 53 career Truck Series victories and is just three victories behind Richard Petty’s all-time record of 200 career NASCAR victories.

Busch fell back to 33rd place and one lap off the lead lap early in the race as a result of the fact that his car had a loose wheel that forced him to make an unscheduled pit stop. He ended up taking the wave around as a result of the caution flag period that took place shortly thereafter to get himself back on the lead lap, and from there, he worked his way back to the front of the field before taking the checkered flag.

Nemechek led a train of Chevrolet drivers from second through seventh place. JR Motorsports’ Noah Gragson, Kaulig Racing’s Austin Dillon, JR Motorsports’ Michael Annett, RSS Racing’s Ryan Sieg and JD Motorsports’ Ross Chastain rounded out the top seven by finishing in third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in their #9 Chevrolet, #10 Chevrolet, #1 Chevrolet, #39 Chevrolet and #4 Chevrolet, respectively.

Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Chase Briscoe and race polesitter Cole Custer were the highest finishing Ford drivers of the race. They finished in eighth and ninth place in their #98 Ford and #00 Ford, respectively. Kaulig Racing’s Justin Haley rounded out the top 10 by finishing in 10th in his #11 Chevrolet.

The race featured a total of 13 lead changes among six drivers. Aside of Busch, who led more laps than anybody else in the field with 98 laps led, five drivers led at least one lap of the race. These drivers were Custer, Gray Gaulding, Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick and Austin Cindric. Custer won stage one and Reddick won stage two.

The race also featured a total of seven caution flag periods for 37 laps. Of these seven caution flag periods, five took place as a result of on-track incidents while the other two took place as a result of the endings of stages one and two. Of the 38 drivers who started the race, 26 finished it and nine finished it on the lead lap.
