IndyCar: Ryan Hunter-Reay tops first 2019 Long Beach practice session

Ryan Hunter-Reay opened up the weekend of the fourth race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, by topping the speed chart in the first practice session.
Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in the first practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s fourth race, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, on the streets of Long Beach, California.
Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in this practice session by recording a top lap time of 67.9335 seconds (104.290 miles per hour) around the 11-turn, 1.968-mile (3.167-kilometer) temporary street circuit on the streets of Long Beach, California in his #28 Honda. He led a top seven sweep by Honda drivers in this session.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal finished this practice session in second, third and fourth place in their #9 Honda, #88 Honda and #15 Honda, respectively.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi, Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe and Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist rounded out the top seven on the speed chart in this practice session by finishing in fifth, sixth and seventh place in their #27 Honda, #5 Honda and #10 Honda, respectively.
Team Penske teammates Simon Pagenaud, Josef Newgarden and Will Power were the highest finishing Chevrolet drivers in this practice session. They rounded out the top 10 by finishing in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #22 Chevrolet, #2 Chevrolet and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.
A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Matheus Leist was the highest finishing non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver in this practice session, as he finished in 11th place in his #4 Chevrolet.
The second and third practice sessions for this race are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. ET this evening and 12:00 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon. Both of these sessions are set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold. Qualifying for the race is scheduled to begin at 3:10 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network.
The final warmup session for the race is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 14, and it is set to be broadcast on NBC Sports Gold. Later on Sunday afternoon, NBC Sports Network is set to air the race live beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET.
