IndyCar: Alexander Rossi takes pole for 2019 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach

Alexander Rossi took his first pole position of the 2019 IndyCar season for the season’s fourth race, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi took the pole position for the fourth of 17 races on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, on the streets of Long Beach, California. This pole position is his first pole position of the season, his second consecutive pole position for this race and the fifth pole position of his IndyCar career.

Rossi took the pole position for this race by recording a top lap time of 66.4811 seconds (106.569 miles per hour) around the 11-turn, 1.968-mile (3.167-kilometer) temporary street circuit on the streets of Long Beach, California in his #27 Honda in the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session for the race.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon qualified in second place in his #9 Honda, giving Honda drivers a lockout of the front row for the second consecutive race.

Team Penske teammates Will Power, Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud were the highest qualifying Chevrolet drivers for the race. They qualified in third, fourth and fifth place in their #12 Chevrolet, #2 Chevrolet and #22 Chevrolet, respectively.

The slowest driver of the six drivers who advanced to the Firestone Fast Six was Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal, who qualified in sixth place in his #15 Honda.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato, Carlin rookie Patricio O’Ward and Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta are set to round out the top 10 on the starting grid after qualifying in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #28 Honda, #30 Honda, #31 Chevrolet and #88 Honda, respectively.

The slowest two of the 12 drivers who advanced to the second round of qualifying for the race were Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti and Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, although Rosenqvist was slated to advance to the Firestone Fast Six before he crashed and was penalized for bringing out a red flag.

Andretti and Rosenqvist are set to share the sixth row of the starting grid for this race after qualifying in 11th and 12th place in their #98 Honda and #10 Honda, respectively.
