IndyCar: Colton Herta tops second 2019 Indianapolis practice session

Colton Herta topped the speed chart in the second and final practice session for the fifth race of the 2019 IndyCar season, the IndyCar Grand Prix, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta topped the speed chart in the second and final practice session for the fifth race on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule, the IndyCar Grand Prix, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Herta topped the speed chart in the practice session by recording a top lap time of 68.0393 seconds (129.049 miles per hour) around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile (-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in Speedway, Indiana in his #88 Honda.

Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist finished in second place on the speed chart in this practice session his #10 Honda, giving Honda drivers, Honda rookies to be more specific, a top two sweep. He finished ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot, the highest finishing Chevrolet driver of this session, in third in his #21 Chevrolet.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon rounded out the top five on the speed chart in this practice session by finishing in fourth and fifth place in their #18 Honda and #9 Honda, respectively.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato, Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay, Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey and Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Marcus Ericsson rounded out the top nine on the speed chart in this practice session by finishing in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth place in their #30 Honda, #28 Honda, #60 Honda and #7 Honda, respectively, giving Honda drivers eight of the top nine positions.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Jones finished in 10th place in his #20 Chevrolet. The highest finishing non-Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet drivers of this practice session were Team Penske teammates Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power. They finished in 14th, 15th and 16th in their #2 Chevrolet, #22 Chevrolet and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.

Qualifying for this 85-lap race is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET this afternoon. NBC Sports Network is set to broadcast it live. The morning warmup session for this race is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. ET tomorrow morning. NBC Sports Gold is set to broadcast it live.  The race itself is scheduled to begin at 3:40 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon. NBC is set to broadcast it live beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.
