IndyCar: Felix Rosenqvist takes pole for 2019 IndyCar Grand Prix

Felix Rosenqvist took the first pole position of his IndyCar career for the fifth race on the 2019 schedule, the IndyCar Grand Prix, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist took the pole position for the fifth of 17 races on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, the IndyCar Grand Prix, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. This pole position is the first pole position of Rosenqvist’s IndyCar career.

Rosenqvist took the pole position for this 85-lap race around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile (3.925-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in Speedway, Indiana by recording a top lap time of 68.275 seconds (128.597 miles per hour) in his #10 Honda in the third and final round of qualifying for the race, the Firestone Fast Six.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon qualified in second place in his #9 Honda, giving Chip Ganassi Racing a front row lockout of the starting grid for this race.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey and Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta qualified in third and fourth place in their #60 Honda and #88 Honda, respectively, giving Honda drivers a top four sweep of the starting grid for this race.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Jones and Team Penske’s Will Power were the highest qualifying Chevrolet drivers for this race and the other two drivers who advanced to the Firestone Fast Six. They qualified in fifth and sixth place in their #20 Chevrolet and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal, Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Marcus Ericsson and Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais rounded out the top 10 in this qualifying session by qualifying in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #15 Honda, #22 Chevrolet, #7 Honda and #18 Honda, respectively.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato and Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot were the slowest two of the 12 drivers who advanced to the second round of qualifying for this race. They qualified in 11th and 12th place in their #30 Honda and #21 Chevrolet, respectively.

The morning warmup session for the IndyCar Grand Prix is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course beginning tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. ET. The race itself is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET later tomorrow afternoon, and it is scheduled to get underway at roughly 3:40 p.m. ET.
