IndyCar: Will Power tops first 2019 Indianapolis practice session

Will Power topped the speed chart in the opening practice session for the fifth race of the 2019 IndyCar season, the IndyCar Grand Prix, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Team Penske’s Will Power opened up the weekend of the 17-race 2019 IndyCar season’s fifth race, the IndyCar Grand Prix, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course by topping the speed chart in the first of two practice sessions for this race.

Power topped the speed chart in this opening practice session by recording a top lap time of 69.2890 seconds (126.721 miles per hour) around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile (3.925-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in Speedway, Indiana in his #12 Chevrolet.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot finished in second place on the speed chart in this practice session in his #21 Chevrolet, giving Chevrolet drivers a top two sweep. He finished ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, who was the highest finishing Honda driver in third in his #9 Honda.

Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist and Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden rounded out the top five on the speed chart in this practice session by finishing in fourth and fifth in their #10 Honda and #2 Chevrolet, respectively.

Andretti Autosport teammates Ryan Hunter-Reay and Zach Veach, Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato and Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi rounded out the top 10 on the speed chart in this practice session by finishing in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #28 Honda, #26 Honda, #22 Chevrolet, #30 Honda and #27 Honda, respectively.

The second and final practice session for this 85-lap race is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. ET this afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold. Qualifying for this race is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET this afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network.

The morning warmup session for this race is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. ET tomorrow morning, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold. The race itself is scheduled to begin at 3:40 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.
