IndyCar: Josef Newgarden tops second 2019 Indianapolis 500 practice session

Josef Newgarden topped the speed chart in the second practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s sixth race, the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500.
Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden made Team Penske two for two so far in practice sessions for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 by topping the speed chart in the second practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s sixth race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after teammate Will Power topped the speed chart in the first practice session for the race yesterday.
All 36 drivers who are on the entry list for this year’s running of the greatest spectacle in racing completed laps in this practice session.
Newgarden topped the speed chart in this practice session by recording a top lap time of 39.3260 seconds (228.856 miles per hour) around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana in his #2 Chevrolet.

From first through sixth place on the speed chart, no two drivers from the same manufacturer finished back-to-back.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon finished in second place in his #9 Honda ahead of Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot in third in his #21 Chevrolet and Dale Coyne Racing rookie Santino Ferrucci in fourth in his #19 Honda.
Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves finished in fifth place in his #3 Chevrolet ahead of Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser Sullivan’s Sebastien Bourdais in sixth in his #18 Honda.
Andretti Autosport’s Zach Veach, Carlin’s Charlie Kimball, Ed Carpenter Racing Scuderia Corsa’s Ed Jones and Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #26 Honda, #23 Chevrolet, #63 Chevrolet and #20 Chevrolet, respectively.
Only 0.7879 seconds (4.495 miles per hour) separated first from 36th place on the speed chart in this practice session. DragonSpeed rookie Ben Hanley finished in 36th in his #81 Chevrolet by recording a top lap time of 40.1139 seconds (224.361 miles per hour).
McLaren Racing’s Fernando Alonso and Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, who finished in 29th and 16th place in their #66 Chevrolet and #10 Honda, respectively, both crashed during this practice session. They were both checked, cleared and released from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield medical center following these incidents.
