IndyCar: Ed Jones tops no-tow speed chart in fourth 2019 Indy 500 practice

Ed Jones topped the no-tow speed chart in the fourth practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s sixth race, the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500.

For the third time in the first four practice sessions for the sixth race on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule, the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500, Ed Carpenter Racing Scuderia Corsa’s Ed Jones was the fastest driver without a tow.

Jones recorded a top lap time of 39.1124 seconds (230.106 miles per hour) without a tow around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana in his #63 Chevrolet in the fourth practice session, the Fast Friday practice session, for this year’s running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”.

Jones led a top two Ed Carpenter Racing sweep of the no-tow speed chart in this practice session, as Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter finished in second place in his #20 Chevrolet.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi was the highest finishing Honda driver on the no-tow speed chart in this practice session. He finished in third place in his #27 Honda.

Team Penske teammates Will Power and Simon Pagenaud rounded out the top five on the no-tow speed chart in this practice session by finishing in fourth and fifth place in their #12 Chevrolet and #22 Chevrolet, respectively.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal, Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden and Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta rounded out the top 10 on the no-tow speed chart in this practice session by finishing in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #15 Honda, #98 Honda, #9 Honda, #2 Chevrolet and #88 Honda, respectively.

Juncos Racing’s Kyle Kaiser, who crashed early on in this practice session and was unable to complete an up-to-speed lap in his #32 Chevrolet as a result of it, was the only one of the 36 drivers who participated in this session but did not complete a lap without a tow.

The fifth and final pre-qualifying practice session for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning in three segments from 8:00 a.m. ET to 9:30 a.m. ET. The first segment is scheduled to take place from 8:00 a.m. ET to 8:30 a.m. ET and is set to feature one group of drivers. The second segment is scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m. ET to 9:00 a.m. ET and is set to feature another group of drivers.

The third and final segment of this practice session is scheduled to take place from 9:00 a.m. ET to 9:30 a.m. ET and is set to feature whichever drivers opt to participate in it. This entire practice session is set to be broadcast live from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Additionally, live coverage is set to be provided by IndyCar RaceControl as well.
