NASCAR: Kyle Larson wins 2019 Open stage three, advances to All-Star Race

Kyle Larson has won the third and final stage of the 2019 Monster Energy Open to lock himself into the Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson won the third and final stage of the 2019 Monster Energy Open at Charlotte Motor Speedway to secure himself a spot in the Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race at the track later tonight.

The third and final stage what ended up being a 62-lap Open around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Charlotte Motor Speedway oval in Concord, North Carolina was a 10-lap shootout, and after starting the race in sixth place in his #42 Chevrolet, he won it by 0.867 seconds over in German Racing’s Ty Dillon in second in his #13 Chevrolet.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman finished in third place in his #88 Chevrolet to give Chevrolet a top three sweep.

Leavine Family Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto was the highest finishing Toyota driver of the stage. He finished in fourth place in his #95 Toyota. Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was the highest finishing Ford driver of the stage. He finished in fifth in his #17 Ford.

JTG Daugherty Racing rookie Ryan Preece, Front Row Motorsports’ David Ragan, Wood Brothers Racing’s Paul Menard, Front Row Motorsports’ Michael McDowell and Go Fas Racing’s Corey LaJoie rounded out the top 10 by finishing in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #47 Chevrolet, #38 Ford, #21 Ford, #34 Ford and #32 Ford, respectively.

Larson is set to start the 85-lap All-Star Race at the track in 18th place. He is set to start the race ahead of only the winner of the All-Star Fan Vote in 19th.

If the winner of the All-Star Fan Vote already qualified for the race by winning one of the three stages of the Open, then the driver who finished in the highest position in the Fan Vote but did not win a stage of the Open will advance to the All-Star Race and start in 19th place.

The Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race is set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET, and the race is scheduled to begin a few minutes after that.
