IndyCar: Alexander Rossi tops second 2019 Road America practice session

Alexander Rossi topped the speed chart in the second practice session for the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America, the 2019 IndyCar season’s 10th race.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi topped the speed chart in the second of three practice sessions for the 10th race of the 17-race 2019 IndyCar season, the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America.

Rossi topped the speed chart in the second practice session for this 55-lap race around the 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) Road America natural terrain road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin by recording a top lap time of 103.1206 seconds (141.3180 miles per hour) in his # 27 Honda, a lap time he recorded on a lap where his car was all over the place and got airborne by jumping over the kerbs.

Team Penske teammates Will Power and Josef Newgarden were the top two Chevrolet drivers and the only two Chevrolet drivers who finished this practice session in the top eight. They finished in second and third place in their #12 Chevrolet and #2 Chevrolet, respectively.

Honda drivers, including two rookies, rounded out the rest of the top eight in this practice session.

Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta, Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal, Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay, who topped the speed chart in the opening practice session, and Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe finished in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth place in their #88 Honda, #10 Honda, #15 Honda, #28 Honda and #5 Honda, respectively.

Carlin rookie Patricio O’Ward was the highest finishing non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver of this practice session. He finished in ninth place in his #31 Chevrolet ahead of three more Honda drivers.

Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon and Andretti Autosport’s Zach Veach rounded out the top 12 by finishing in 10th, 11th and 12th place in their #98 Honda, #9 Honda and #26 Honda, respectively, to give Honda drivers nine of the top 12 positions in this practice session.

The third and final practice session for the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America is scheduled to take place tomorrow afternoon from 12:00 p.m. ET to 12:45 p.m. ET, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold. NBC Sports Gold is also set to air qualifying for this race live from 4:00 p.m. ET to 5:15 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon. Additionally, NBC Sports Network is set to air this session on a delay from 5:00 p.m. ET to 6:30 p.m. ET.

The 2019 IndyCar season’s 10th race itself is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon, and it is scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m. ET.
