IndyCar: Josef Newgarden tops third 2019 Road America practice session

Josef Newgarden topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s 10th race, the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America.

IndyCar championship standings leader Josef Newgarden of Team Penske topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for the 17-race 2019 season’s 10th race, the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America.

Newgarden topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for this 55-lap race around the 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) Road America natural terrain road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin by recording a top lap time of 102.8825 seconds (141.6451 miles per hour) in his #2 Chevrolet.

Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta was the fastest Honda driver of this practice session. He finished in second place in his #88 Honda ahead of Team Penske’s Will Power in third in his #12 Chevrolet.

Andretti Autosport teammates Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi rounded out the top five by finishing in fourth and fifth place in their #28 Honda and #27 Honda, respectively.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot was the fastest non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver of this practice session. He finished in sixth place in his #21 Chevrolet.

Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, Dale Coyne Racing rookie Santino Ferrucci, Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe and Carlin rookie Patricio O’Ward rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #10 Honda, #19 Honda, #5 Honda and #31 Chevrolet, respectively.

The race itself, the 2019 IndyCar season’s 10th race, is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon. It is scheduled to begin shortly thereafter at 12:40 p.m. ET.
