Biggest Movers
Up: Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal (+3)
Down: Will Power, Takuma Sato (-3)
Despite the fact that he sits in eighth place in the championship standings, the fact that he was involved in a first-lap six-car crash in the Honda Indy Toronto and the fact that he could only rebound to secure what was his worst finish since his wreck-induced 27th place finish in the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway back in late May, Graham Rahal silently made his way up from eighth to fifth in these formulated IndyCar Driver Power Rankings.
This is because Rahal’s worst finish in the five races that have been contested since the Indy 500 is still the very solid ninth place finish that he earned in the Honda Indy Toronto race following a solid comeback drive.
This ninth place finish notably decreased Rahal’s average finish in the last five races by 3.60 from 9.60 to 6.00, as it replaced his 27th place finish in the Indy 500 in the calculation for this average. His average finish in the last five races is the third best in IndyCar right now, which is a huge reason why he jumped from eighth to fifth in these rankings.
Only the top two drivers in these rankings, Alexander Rossi and Josef Newgarden, have recorded better average finishes in the last five races than Rahal has. Rossi’s mark of 2.60 is by far the best in IndyCar while Newgarden is only slightly ahead of Rahal in this category with an average of 5.60.
IndyCar action is scheduled to resume in under one week on Saturday, July 20 with the Iowa 300 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. This race is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET, and it is scheduled to get underway shortly thereafter.
