For the fifth time in the 2019 IndyCar season, a season-low total of 22 drivers are entered for a race, this time for the Iowa 300 at Iowa Speedway.

The 17-race 2019 IndyCar season’s 12th race, the Iowa 300, is scheduled to take place this Saturday night at Iowa Speedway, but only 22 drivers are set to compete in it, marking the fifth race this season with a season-low 22 drivers.

Both races at the Raceway on Belle Isle also featured 22 drivers, as did the race at Texas Motor Speedway and the most recent race at Exhibition Place, meaning that this Saturday night’s race is set to be not only the fifth race of the season to feature only 22 drivers but the fifth race in the last six races.

The race at Road America is the only race to feature more than 22 drivers during this span, as 23 drivers competed in it.

Meanwhile, one other race has featured 23 drivers and four races have featured 24 drivers this season. One race, the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway featured a season-high 33 drivers as it always does.

Of the 22 drivers who are set to compete in Saturday night’s 300-lap race around the four-turn, 0.894-mile (1.439-kilometer) Iowa Speedway oval in Newton, Iowa, 19 are full-time drivers, of whom all 19 have competed in each of the first 11 races on this year’s schedule.

Of the three part-time drivers who are set to compete in this race, only one is a regular competitor, and that is Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter. Carpenter is considered an oval specialist, as he has only competed in the oval races dating back to the 2014 season. The Iowa 300 is the third oval race of the 2019 season.

The other two part-time drivers who are set to compete in this race are both set to drive for Carlin, and they are Sage Karam and Conor Daly. Both drivers have driven in two races so far this season, with one being the Indy 500. Both drivers drove for a team other than Carlin in the Indy 500 and both drivers have driven for Carlin in a race other than the Indy 500.

Here is a list of the 22 drivers who are set to compete in the 2019 Iowa 300 at Iowa Speedway.
