IndyCar: 2019 Iowa 300 qualifying – Live updates
By Asher Fair
Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the 2019 IndyCar season’s third oval race and 12th overall race, the Iowa 300, at Iowa Speedway.
A total of 22 drivers are set to compete in the 12th race on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule at Iowa Speedway, the Iowa 300, tying the season-low total that has been set or tied in four of the season’s first 11 races.
The Iowa 300 is the third of five oval races on this year’s schedule, and 22 drivers also competed in the race at Texas Motor Speedway, the second oval race of the season. The first oval race of the season, the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway featured a season-high 33 drivers like it always does.
Six different drivers representing five different teams have been victorious at least once so far this season. Two of them have won three races while one has won two and three have won one.

The two drivers who have won three races so far this season are Team Penske teammates Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud. The other four drivers who have been victorious in 2019 all drive for different teams.
Pagenaud and Newgarden have each won an oval race this season, with Pagenaud winning the Indy 500 before Newgarden won the race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Meanwhile, seven drivers representing five different teams have taken at least one pole position so far this season. Four of these seven drivers have taken two pole positions while three have taken one, so there has really been no true dominant driver or drivers in qualifying through the season’s first 11 races.
Who will take the pole position for this 300-lap race around the four-turn, 0.894-mile (1.439-kilometer) Iowa Speedway oval in Newton, Iowa, and which drivers will qualify in which positions throughout the remaining 21 spots on the grid?
