IndyCar: RC Enerson to drive for Carlin at Mid-Ohio
By Asher Fair
RC Enerson is set to compete in IndyCar for the first time since the 2016 season this Sunday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and he is set to drive for Carlin.
RC Enerson has not competed in an IndyCar race since he competed in the first three races of his career toward the end of the 2016 season when he drove for Dale Coyne Racing. But that is set to change this weekend.
The 22-year-old New Port Richey, Florida native is set to drive for Carlin in this Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, which is one of the three tracks at which he drove for Dale Coyne Racing three seasons ago.
Enerson test drove for the team at Circuit of the Americas before the 17-race season began, and he is finally set to get his chance to drive for the team in a race. He is set to drive the #31 Chevrolet in this 90-lap race around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile (3.634-kilometer) Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course natural terrain road course in Lexington, Ohio as the teammate to Max Chilton, who drives the #59 Chevrolet in the road and street course races.
Carlin confirmed this news on Twitter.
Here is what Carlin team principal Trevor Carlin had to say about the addition of Enerson to the team for this race, according to IndyCar.
"“RC really impressed us at Spring Training at COTA at the beginning of the season, and we were very hopeful that something could come together at some point that would put him back in the car. RC has spent a lot of time with our team this season, and he has quite a bit of experience at Mid-Ohio, including an IndyCar start a few years back, so he should be able to jump back in and make the transition a smooth one.”"
Here is what Enerson had to say about the opportunity to return to IndyCar competition in this race, according to IndyCar.
"“We’ve been working really hard to get something together to get me back in the seat at some point this season, and I couldn’t be happier that it’s all come together for Mid-Ohio. Mid-Ohio has always been one of my favorite tracks on the schedule. I’ve just always loved the elevation changes and all of the high-speed flowing corners.”"

In six U.S. F2000 races at the track, he earned one victory and recorded four podium finishes without ever finishing lower than eighth place. His average finishing position was 3.50.
