IndyCar: Colton Herta tops second 2019 Mid-Ohio practice session

Colton Herta topped the second practice session for the Honda Indy 200, the 13th race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta topped the speed chart in the second and final practice session of the day and the second of three practice sessions for this Sunday’s IndyCar race, the Honda Indy 200, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Herta topped the speed chart in this practice session for the 17-race 2019 season’s 13th race by recording a top lap time of 65.7292 seconds (123.6711 miles per hour) around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile (3.634-kilometer) Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course natural terrain road course in Lexington, Ohio in his #88 Honda.

Team Penske teammates Simon Pagenaud and Will Power were the fastest Chevrolet drivers of this practice session. They finished in second and third place in their #22 Chevrolet and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay and Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe rounded out the top six by finishing in fourth, fifth and sixth place in their #10 Honda, #28 Honda and #5 Honda, respectively, to give Honda four of the top six positions.

A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Matheus Leist was the fastest non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver of this practice session. He finished in an impressive seventh place in his #4 Chevrolet.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey, Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot and Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan’s Sebastien Bourdais rounded out the top 10 by finishing in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #60 Honda, #21 Chevrolet and #18 Honda, respectively.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, who leads the championship standings by 29 points (487 to 458) over Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi in second place, finished in 11th place in the #2 Chevrolet, but before the session concluded, he crashed. Rossi, meanwhile, finished in 13th in his #27 Honda, which is where he finished in the first practice session of the day.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, who topped the speed chart in today’s first practice session, finished in 16th place in his #9 Honda.

The third and final practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s 13th race scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET tomorrow morning, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold.

The qualifying session for the race is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET, and it is scheduled to begin at 2:35 p.m. ET. The race itself, the Honda Indy 200, is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 28, and it is scheduled to begin at 4:05 p.m. ET.
