IndyCar: Scott Dixon tops first 2019 Mid-Ohio practice session

Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the opening practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s 13th race, the Honda Indy 200, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon opened up the weekend of the 17-race 2019 IndyCar season’s 13th race, the Honda Indy 200, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course by topping the speed chart in the first of three practice sessions for this race.

Dixon, a five-time Honda Indy 200 winner, topped the speed chart in this practice session by recording a top lap time of 66.0973 seconds (122.9823 miles per hour) around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile (3.634-kilometer) Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course natural terrain road course in Lexington, Ohio in his #9 Honda.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot was the fastest Chevrolet driver in this practice session. He finished in second place ahead in his #21 Chevrolet ahead of Team Penske teammates Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden in third and fourth in their #22 Chevrolet and #2 Chevrolet, respectively.

Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe rounded out the top five by finishing in fifth place in his #5 Honda as the fastest Honda driver aside of Dixon. Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay finished behind him in sixth in his #28 Honda.

Team Penske’s Will Power, Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan’s Sebastien Bourdais and Carlin’s Max Chilton rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #12 Chevrolet, #10 Honda, #18 Honda and #59 Chevrolet, respectively. Chevrolet and Honda each placed five drivers in the top 10.

The second practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s 13th race is scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m. ET this afternoon. The third and final practice session for this race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET tomorrow morning. Both sessions are set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold.

The qualifying session for the Honda Indy 200 is scheduled to begin at 2:35 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network starting at 2:30 p.m. ET. The race itself is scheduled to begin at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 28, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC starting at 4:00 p.m. ET.
