IndyCar: Colton Herta tops third 2019 Mid-Ohio practice session

Colton Herta topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for the the 13th race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the Honda Indy 200.

Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta topped the speed chart in Saturday’s lone practice session and the third and final overall practice session for Sunday’s IndyCar race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the Honda Indy 200.

Herta topped the speed chart in this practice session for the 13th race of the 17-race season by recording a top lap time of 65.7048 seconds (123.7170 miles per hour) around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile (3.634-kilometer) Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course natural terrain road course in Lexington, Ohio in his #88 Honda.

The 19-year-old Valencia, California native also topped the speed chart in the second practice session for this race yesterday, and his fastest lap times in both the second and third practice sessions were the fastest lap times of the weekend when he recorded them.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot was the fastest Chevrolet driver of this practice session. He finished in second place in his #21 Chevrolet. After struggling yesterday and finishing in 13th in both sessions, Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi finished in third in his #27 Honda.

Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe and Dale Coyne Racing rookie Santino Ferrucci rounded out the top five by finishing in fourth and fifth place in their #5 Honda and #19 Honda, respectively, in this practice session.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal finished in sixth place in his #15 Honda after a disastrous second practice session yesterday that resulted in him finished in 23rd (last). Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, the leader of the championship standings who crashed in yesterday’s second practice session, finished in seventh in his #2 Chevrolet.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay, Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan’s Sebastien Bourdais and Team Penske’s Will Power rounded out the top 10 by finishing in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #28 Honda, #18 Honda and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.

The qualifying session for the Honda Indy 200 is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET, and it is scheduled to begin short thereafter at 2:35 p.m. ET. The 2019 IndyCar season’s 13th race itself is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon, and it is scheduled to begin at shortly thereafter 4:05 p.m. ET.
