Scott Dixon won the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in thrilling fashion to secure his second victory of the 2019 IndyCar season.
After four years of letting other drivers have their turn in the spotlight, Mr. Mid-Ohio got back to his winning ways.
In thrilling fashion, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon earned his second victory of the 2019 IndyCar season by winning the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the 13th of 17 races on the schedule. This victory is his sixth victory at the track, as he also won there in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
Dixon started this 90-lap race around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile (3.634-kilometer) Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course road course in eighth place in his #9 Honda, and he won it by just 0.0934 seconds over rookie teammate Felix Rosenqvist in second in his #10 Honda.

This finish was the closest finish ever at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and it was the third closest finish in IndyCar history in a road or street course race.
It happened despite the fact that the race took place without a caution flag period for the second consecutive season for the fourth time in the last eight years.
Here is a video of this thrilling finish between Dixon, who made his final stint on a two-stop strategy work on red tires, and Rosenqvist, the highest running driver on a three-stop strategy on black tires.
Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay rounded out the podium to complete a top three sweep for Honda by finishing in third place in his #28 Honda.
Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, the leader of the championship standings, had a chance to finish in fourth place if not third as the race’s highest finishing Chevrolet driver in his #2 Chevrolet. But on the final lap, this happened.
Newgarden ended up finishing in 14th place.
Team Penske’s Will Power, who started the race from the pole position, finished in fourth place in his #12 Chevrolet ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi in fifth in his #27 Honda and Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud in sixth in his #22 Chevrolet.
Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot, Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal and Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th in their #21 Chevrolet, #88 Honda, #15 Honda and #60 Honda, respectively.
This race featured a total of seven lead changes among four drivers. Dixon led 38 laps while Power led 26, Rosenqvist led 15 and Newgarden led 11. Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Marcus Ericsson was the only driver who failed to finish the race after contact on lap one with teammate James Hinchcliffe and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato damaged his car.
