Conor Daly made a surprise appearance atop the speed chart in the second and final practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s fifth and final oval race, the 2019 Bommarito Automotive Group 500, at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

Carlin’s Conor Daly topped the speed chart in the second and final practice session for the fifth and final oval race on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

Daly topped the speed chart in this practice session for tomorrow evening’s 248-lap race around the four-turn, 1.25-mile (2.012-kilometer) World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway oval in Madison, Illinois by recording a top lap time of 24.7346 seconds (181.9314 miles per hour) in his #59 Chevrolet.

Daly led a top two Chevrolet sweep of this practice session, as Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden finished in second place in his #2 Chevrolet.

However, engine issues plagued Newgarden, who took the pole position for this race earlier this evening, toward the end of this practice session.

After his team worked on the car, he was unable to get back onto the track because the session ended early when Carlin’s Charlie Kimball crashed to bring out a caution flag.

As a result, there are many questions pertaining to how his engine will perform during the race with no more practice time scheduled before then.

Andretti Autosport’s Zach Veach was the fastest Honda driver in this practice session. He finished in third place in his #26 Honda ahead of fellow Honda drivers Takuma Sato of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Felix Rosenqvist, a rookie, and Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing in fourth, fifth and sixth in their #30 Honda, #10 Honda and #9 Honda, respectively.

Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi, Dale Coyne Racing rookie Santino Ferrucci and Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #22 Chevrolet, #27 Honda, #19 Honda and #28 Honda, respectively.
