Josef Newgarden took the pole position for the final oval race and the 15th overall race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden leads the IndyCar championship standings and is set to lead the field to the green flag for the fifth and final oval race on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

Newgarden took the pole position for this 248-lap race around the four-turn, 1.25-mile (2.012-kilometer) World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway oval in Madison, Illinois by recording at two-lap average speed of 186.5076 miles per hour (48.2554 seconds) in his #2 Chevrolet in the single-car qualifying session for this race.

This pole position is Newgarden’s series-high third pole position of the season, but it is the second that he has earned, as he started from the pole position in last Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway after the qualifying session for this race was rained out.
