IndyCar: Sebastien Bourdais tops second 2019 Portland practice

Sebastien Bourdais topped the speed chart in the second of three practice sessions for the Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway, the penultimate race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule.

Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan’s Sebastien Bourdais topped the speed chart in the second of three practice sessions for the 2019 IndyCar season’s penultimate race, the Grand Prix of Portland, at Portland International Raceway.

Bourdais topped the speed chart in this practice session for this 105-lap race around the 12-turn, 1.967-mile (3.166-kilometer) Portland International Raceway natural terrain road course in Portland, Oregon by recording a top lap time of 57.9213 seconds (122.2555 miles per hour) in his #18 Honda…seconds before going off the course in the final corner and hitting the tire barrier.

Team Penske teammates Will Power, Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud were the only three Chevrolet drivers who finished in the top 14, and they all finished in the top seven. They finished in second, fifth and seventh place in their #12 Chevrolet, #2 Chevrolet and #22 Chevrolet, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist finished in third place in his #10 Honda ahead of Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta in fourth in his #88 Honda. Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi finished in sixth in his #27 Honda.

Meyer Shank Racing with Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ Jack Harvey, Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato rounded out the top 10 by finishing in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #60 Honda, #5 Honda and #30 Honda, respectively.

The highest finishing non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver of this practice session was Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot. He finished in 15th place in his #21 Chevrolet.

The third and final practice session for the Grand Prix of Portland is set to serve as tomorrow’s opening on-track activity of the day. It is scheduled to begin tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ET, and it is set to be broadcast live from Portland International Raceway on NBC Sports Gold.

Following this practice session, the only on-track activity remaining on the schedule prior to the 2019 IndyCar season’s penultimate race itself will be the qualifying session for the race. This session is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET tomorrow evening. The race itself is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 1, and it is scheduled to begin shortly thereafter at 3:35 p.m. ET.
