A total of 39 drivers are set to compete in the opening race of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the South Point 400.

The four-round, 10-race 2019 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs are scheduled to get underway this Sunday, September 15 with the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

A total of 39 drivers are set to compete in this Sunday’s 267-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Las Vegas Motor Speedway oval in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Through the first 26 races of the 36-race 2019 season, six races have featured full fields of 40 drivers, and of the 20 races that haven’t, three featured 39 drivers.

Of the 39 drivers who are set to compete in this race, 16 are playoff drivers while an additional 17 are full-time drivers, although two of these full-time drivers, StarCom Racing’s Landon Cassill and Premium Motorsports’ Ross Chastain, are not eligible to score Cup Series points.

Of the 33 full-time drivers who are set to compete in this race, only Chastain has missed a race this year. He did not compete in the June race at Michigan International Speedway.

There are six part-time drivers who are set to compete in this race, but only three of them have been confirmed. Joe Nemechek is set to drive the #27 Chevrolet for Premium Motorsports while Joey Gase is set to drive the #66 Toyota for MBM Motorsports and Reed Sorenson is set to drive the #77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports.

Not yet confirmed are the drivers of the #51 Chevrolet for Petty Ware Racing as well as the #52 Chevrolet for Rick Ware Racing and the #53 Chevrolet for Rick Ware Racing.

Of the three confirmed part-time drivers for this race, only Sorenson is set to drive for a chartered team. Whoever ends up driving the #51 Chevrolet and whoever ends up driving the #52 Chevrolet will also be driving for chartered teams. That said, this should not matter a whole lot since the field is not full for this race and nobody will be bumped from the field.
